Lower Blood Pressure With A Healthy Eating Plan

Everyday people are searching for varieties of foods that will help them to lower blood pressure.  A healthy eating plan should be your first choice along with changes in your lifestyle.  Healthier choices in foods should include fresh fruits and vegetables which have been linked with helping to lower blood pressure.  This comes directly from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) which recommends putting in place a healthy eating plan as one of the first steps to help prevent or lower blood pressure.

The NIH has recommended a healthy eating plan called DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension).  It simply outlines foods that are lower in saturated fats, total fat content and of course, cholesterol. The primary attention is given to fresh fruits, vegetables and a variety of low fat dairy products.  Many of the foods on the list are similar to those also recommended in fat loss diets, which are considered highly nutritional for total health and the added benefit of helping to lower blood pressure.  The following examples are just a handful of the powerful foods available:

Whole grain oats

Eating whole grain oats offers two very important elements that can easily benefit your body, fiber and magnesium. Oats has also been shown to help slow down the buildup of plaque within the walls of your blood vessels.

Black Beans

Beans, especially black beans helps with regulating blood sugar levels and reducing levels of blood cholesterol, which helps to maintain blood pressure. Black beans are a great source of fiber and magnesium, which is vital for maintaining normal blood pressure. On top of that, black beans also have folate which is good for lowering blood pressure.

Broccoli

Known as a super food simply due to the added nutrients and antioxidants, broccoli is an excellent food to help lower blood pressure. Broccoli is loaded with nutrients like potassium, magnesium, vitamin C, calcium and fiber.

Celery

It's really no surprise that celery is on the list of foods for a healthy eating plan. Celery has been widely known as more of a natural remedy to help with lowering blood pressure.

Berries

One of the best things in berries is their nutritional value as they are loaded with potassium, vitamin C, antioxidants and fiber. This includes all types of berries, which are excellent for helping with blood pressure.

While this list doesn't include all the foods that should be added to a healthy eating plan, they do rank at the top. It's important to remember that none of these foods will do any good unless you take the necessary steps for changes in your life. This includes following a healthy eating plan and adding an exercise program that can help improve your overall health and lower blood pressure.
