Is Cabbage A Healthy Food For Weight Loss

October 26, 2011
I actually love any type of vegetable, but cabbage just happens to be one of those that is top on my list.  I'm definitely not a professional dietitian or nutritionist, but cabbage is part of the vegetable group and it's also considered a healthy food for weight loss by many experts.  While some information can often be confusing or even misleading, it is for this reason that many people end up bewildered as they try to lose weight and keep wondering if certain foods are beneficial for you, especially vegetables.

Cabbage is one of those vegetables that lacks flare, but is widely consumed and often considered a staple food within many cultures.  The great thing about most vegetables, including cabbage is that you can consume it raw or cooked and on top of that, it can compliment a variety of dishes and recipes to suit your taste.  However, some people often wonder if cabbage provides any type of health benefit or is it just another filler food.

The nutritional benefits of cabbage and whether it's a healthy food for weight loss.

Cabbage provides you with an excellent source of Vitamin C, which helps with the proper function of many of your body's internal systems.  It also contains many other important vitamins and minerals that your body requires such as iron, magnesium, phosphorous, potassium and calcium.

Cruciferous vegetables or cabbage family also helps by providing fiber for which your body needs.  This is extremely beneficial for maintaining a healthy body and digestive system.

The calories in cabbage weigh in at only 34 calories per half cup which definitely makes it a healthy food for weight loss.

As you can see, cabbage does provide some nutritional value and besides that, it goes great with many dishes as a side or included in your main meal.

One way that we like to prepare cabbage and use as a side dish is an English style.  You simply start by first cleaning and chopping the cabbage into quarters.  Then set the cabbage in a pot to boil.  Boiling time is entirely up to you and the tenderness that you desire.

After boiling, empty cabbage into a colander to drain off excess water.  While cabbage is draining, use a knife and start cutting the cabbage into smaller pieces as my wife is demonstrating above.

Once the water has been drained, remove from colander and put into serving bowl.  Add 1 Tbsp of butter and pepper to taste.  We like to add more pepper as even the traditional recipe calls for it, but it's entirely up to you and your taste.  If you prefer, you can also steam the cabbage instead of boiling.

He mentioned that if you start the d...

October 20, 2011
It doesn't matter what healthy diet program you are on, people still worry about the amount of calories that are in each of their meals.  Unless you opt for eating prepackaged frozen entrees at every meal, the need to measure out serving sizes or portions sizes with each meal can sometimes be frustrating.  It can also cause unneeded stress for many individuals who are also following restrictive diets which can often create additional pressure just to stay on track.

I have talked with many diet...
